The Donkey’s Tail is a species of succulent that is native to Mexico and Honduras. It is a cliff dweller.
It has long, hanging stems, which grow up to 60 cm (24 inches) long, and look like a donkey’s tail, hence the name.
It has fleshy leaves, which are blue-green in colour and look like jelly beans. The cultivar Burrito has shorter, more compact and smaller leaves.
In summer it produces gorgeous flowers which are pink in colour.
This magnificent plant will provide an interesting, eye-catching addition to any home.

Growing Information
- The Donkey’s Tail is not frost tolerant and must be kept above 5 °C (41 °F). Its trailing stems make it ideal for a hanging basket, and will provide a real talking point for your home.
- It prefers direct sunlight. A bay window would be an ideal location.
- We recommend a soil that drains well, such as a cactus mix or a very fast-draining potting soil mixed with sand.
- Do not worry if some leaves fall out during the delivery - place them in the pot and they will root in no time and give you new plants.
- It can be watered regularly while growing but you should allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Do not overwater. In the winter it can be watered once every 2 months.
- Feed with a cactus fertilizer in the summer and do not feed during winter.
- These plants are prone to attack by mealybugs and aphids.
