Hemianthus callitrichoides is among the smallest aquarium plants globally, forming a creeping carpet with tiny, round, millimeter-sized leaves. It’s a visually appealing and widely favored foreground plant, especially suited for small tanks. While not especially difficult to grow, it does need favorable conditions – such as sufficient lighting, added CO₂, good water circulation, and regular fertilization it needs to thrive. If maintaining these conditions proves challenging, Micranthemum ‘Monte-Carlo’ can be a good, less demanding substitute. The plant often produces small oxygen bubbles that appear as delicate pearls, giving the carpet a lively look. When planted in small groups spaced a few centimeters apart, it spreads quickly to form a dense ground cover. Regular trimming is essential to prevent the lower parts from being deprived of light, which can lead to root death.
