This plant is found on the banks of creeks and rivers, sometimes underwater and sometimes growing to the surface. This is a perfect foreground plant; Pogostemon helferi’s crinkly edged leaves and star like shape are unique in the aquarium hobby. Pogostemon helferi is not difficult to grow. It reaches for the light and elongates somewhat in low-light conditions. If planted in small clusters, it will soon fill in the available space, making for very attractive groupings. To increase your stock, simply separate the stems that grow off the main stems and gently plant in the substrate. When it is allowed to grow to the surface, Pogostemon helferi produces small seed-bearing flowers; these in turn result in new plants when planted in a fertilised substrate with clean water and good light.
