This is an aquatic plant which is very colourful. It is a stem plant that requires high light, nutrients (especially iron) and preferably CO2.

The stems are thick and should be planted in small groups of between 3 to 5 stems towards the centre / back of the aquarium.

This is a perennial, very colourful, marsh herb and the amount of nitrate and phosphate it receives will determine the colour of the leaves. High levels will produce green leaves and low levels produce orange or purple leaves, which are much prized in the aquarium world.
